Getting Yourself Ready For A Photoshoot

All my clients ask me at booking, what do I need to do to get ready for my shoot? There are some key topics that really make a huge impact on your images; hair and makeup, skin prep, and nails are vital beyond outfit selections. Whether you are preparing for a senior session, maternity session, or boudoir the same rules apply across the board.

Glam Make Up

Professional Hair and Make Up is my number one suggestion for clients. At our studio we offer complimentary hair and makeup with an expert artist. What looks good for every day street make up is not what looks good through the camera lens. Certain make up trends do not translate well when doing a photoshoot and that’s why I say, “leave it to the experts!” There’s a reason they went to school for their craft.

No two women are the same, so why should their makeup be? Don’t let mountains of makeup options stop you from having the time of your life at your shoot. Whether you’re foxy glam, natural vixen, or looking for that pinup style, a photo shoot is the perfect time to rock what makes you spectacularly you. And the best part is that you aren’t alone! Our in-house makeup artist will help you create whichever fun and flirty style you decide.

Let's talk about extensions.

This is the one topic my clients ask about the most. Here’s the thing:

If you have thin hair, extensions are incredible!

If you have short hair but want long hair, extensions are incredible!

If you just want to look totally glam, extensions are INCREDIBLE!

Still not a fan of extensions? That’s totally okay! My hair and makeup stylist is incredible and can work with all kinds of hair types and lengths.

But while we’re on the topic…

There are several types of extensions. They range from expensive to not so expensive. If you do decide to purchase extensions, the type my hair and makeup artist recommends are clip in extensions.

Here are some pointers:

1. Only get REAL hair. Don't purchase synthetic hair because synthetic hair won't hold curl.

2. Wash and dry your extensions before you arrive for your shoot. Just use regular shampoo and wash them just like you would wash your own hair. If you don't wash them prior, the extensions won't hold curl and they will end up looking like stringy spaghetti.

3. Take the extensions out of the package and make sure they match up with your real hair BEFORE you come to your shoot.

Skin Prep

I can’t tell my clients enough that taking care of your skin is just as important as the outfit you put on. Having a regular skin care routine has a HUGE impact on how your makeup lays, how your elbows and knees appear, and requires a whole lot less editing for final printed images. You are not going to want to get a big print of your beautiful lashy eyes when you have an acne breakout. Yes we can get rid of this in post production but why not feel great about yourself your whole shoot!

PLEASE don’t tan or spray tan before your shoot. The camera does not like spray tan/tanning, and you’ll end up looking orange in photos.

Moisturize! Your skin will thank you. This includes hydrating as well. Take a gander at your skin the day after you don’t drink enough water. Notice those fine lines showing up more? I KNOW! Mine too. Staying hydrated and moisturizing daily will help your skin regulate and help smooth out those wrinkles.

Nails

This is simple and to the point ladies!

Please remove chipped nail polish and get a manicure. If you aren't a manicure type of girl then you can always get press on nails and arrive with them on.

Soft blush colors, French manicure, and neutral colors all look great on nails. Try to avoid bright nails, busy patterns, and tips that are dark. This will make you look like you have dirt under your nails.

Getting your nails done not only helps you feel 10000% put together but it’s also a really great way to round out your fantastic pampering experience.

I hope this helps you get the ideas flowing and the prepping going for your session. Not booked yet? Reach out to me today to get sign up.
